Reddit video downloads: sound, quality and formats

Which links work?

Use a link to a public Reddit post containing supported native media. Redpork accepts these URL patterns:

• Reddit post links, such as reddit.com/r/community/comments/….
• Short post links using redd.it/….
• Direct Reddit video links using v.redd.it/….
• Reddit community share links using reddit.com/r/community/s/…, when the destination is accessible.

A community homepage, profile page or link to an unrelated website is not a video post link. Opening a supported URL does not guarantee that the post still contains downloadable media.

What cannot be downloaded?

Redpork does not sign in to Reddit for you. Private content, deleted media and posts that cannot be retrieved may be unavailable. A Reddit post can link to a video hosted elsewhere; support for a Reddit post URL does not imply support for that external host.

The current service limits video duration to 30 minutes and media-track size to 128 MiB. A smaller quality may help with a size limit. If the source itself is unavailable, selecting another quality cannot restore it.

Preview sound and downloaded audio

Reddit can provide video and audio as separate tracks. When audio is available, Redpork prepares an MP4 that combines those tracks. The result page identifies the media as With sound or No sound.

The preview starts muted and may use a video-only stream. Turning up its volume may not produce sound, even when the original has audio. If the result says With sound, Redpork includes the separate audio track in your downloaded MP4.

If the original video has no audio track, Redpork cannot add one. GIFs are also silent. Check the original post and the result’s sound label before treating silence as an error.

Choose a video quality

The quality selector lists resolutions available from the source, not a fixed set offered for every video. A post uploaded at a lower resolution cannot be downloaded as genuine 1080p through Redpork.

Higher resolutions generally create larger files. Choose a lower available resolution if file size matters. A size marked About is an estimate. Redpork shows the actual size once the file is ready.

Choosing a quality changes the saved file. The browser preview is for checking the content and may use a different source stream.

GIFs and MP4 files

A post that Reddit calls a GIF may contain a silent video rather than a GIF file. Redpork follows the supported media it finds: native GIF files are saved as GIF, while supported video streams are prepared as MP4.

Check the format on the result page: Redpork saves the supported source format and does not offer a GIF-to-MP4 conversion option. If you need the saving steps, follow the device guide.
